For Alex, playing with other children at school can sometimes be tricky – especially when it comes to joining in and navigating shared moments of play with his peers. These are such important skills for building friendships and feeling confident in the playground.
In music therapy with Sebastian Green, Alex has been practising these skills in a fun and safe way. Through question-and-answer “musical conversations,” he is learning how to share ideas, listen, and respond to others. In this session, you’ll see Alex and Seb co-creating a song together. Seb takes Alex’s chosen theme – his dreams and his love for animals – and builds on it, encouraging Alex to take turns, share space, and explore new ideas. Notice how Alex’s confidence grows: he lights up when his ideas are valued and happily collaborates with Seb. What looks like two people simply writing a song is actually therapy in action – giving Alex tools and the confidence to connect through musical play!
ALEX’S DREAMS SONG
Fish and sharks high up in the sky
Tigers are flying way up high
Birds on the ground, snails able to fly
All in Alex’s dreams
Monkeys are lying on Alex’s bed
They are jumping all over his head
Tigers are jumping on his head too
All in Alex’s dreams
Alex was rumbling around all over the place
Then he fell on an elephants face
He went back to the time of the dinosaurs
All in his dreams
He got chased by a Tyrannosaurus rex
Then the dinosaur gave him some pecks
He went underwater to see a mosasaurus
And even saw an elasmosaurus
All in his dreams
Well done, Alex and Seb! (And yes, “elasmosaurus” might send a few of us to Google!)
