Iani had worked for years across early childhood and disability services, including schools, community groups and private practice.
She saw how much children responded to music — but also how often it was treated as an add-on, not a core part of therapy. Rob came to music therapy after a career in marketing, drawn to the idea that music could create meaningful change across all kinds of lives and abilities.
Together, they wanted to build something different. A dedicated space where therapy could be creative, consistent and centred on each person’s strengths. In 2015, they opened Sound Expression in North Ryde.
One room. One therapist. A place where music therapy could be delivered with purpose and heart.
That one room has grown into a dedicated clinic. It’s now home to a highly skilled team of Registered Music Therapists and a strong community of families who return week after week, year after year.
Today, Sound Expression is known for therapy that’s both evidence-based and deeply human. Sessions are personalised, interactive and adapted in real time, because no two clients are the same and progress doesn’t follow a script.
Here, therapy doesn’t just tick boxes. It builds trust, celebrates strengths and helps people feel seen.
And the coffee shop next door? That’s for the parents and carers, because they deserve a breather too.
